Safety sensors that respond
Garage Door Sensor Repair in Ave Maria
Safety sensors are cleaned, realigned or replaced and their wiring checked, so the door closes reliably and reverses whenever something crosses its path.

Two Small Eyes With an Important Job
Low on each side of the opening sit two small sensors that pass an invisible beam across the doorway. When something breaks that beam, the door stops and heads back up, which makes them one of the most important safety features on any opener.
Because they sit near the floor, sensors get bumped, dusty and splashed, and a slight shift in angle is enough to interrupt the beam. We clean the lenses, realign the brackets, inspect the wiring and replace any unit that has failed, then test the response.
When Sensors Need Attention
Blinking indicator lights
Many sensors have small lights on each unit. A light that blinks or dims on either side often means the beam is misaligned or interrupted.
The door reverses on its own
A door that begins to close and then goes back up, with nothing in the way, often has dirty lenses or sensors pointing slightly off.
Damaged brackets or wires
A bent bracket, a chewed wire or a cracked housing can stop a sensor working and may happen after a bump or lawn work.
How We Sort It Out
- I
Check the beam
We inspect each sensor, confirm the lights, and test whether the beam connects across the opening at the correct height.
- II
Clean, align or replace
Lenses are cleaned, brackets are straightened and tightened, and damaged sensors or wires are replaced with compatible parts.
- III
Test the response
We place an object in the path and confirm the door reverses promptly, then cycle it several times to check it closes reliably.
Sensor Questions
- Can bright sunshine confuse the sensors?
- Strong sun shining straight into a lens can disrupt the beam. A small shade, a slight change of angle or a replacement unit often solves it, and we look at how the sun reaches your doorway at different times of day before recommending a fix.
- Is it acceptable to bypass the sensors?
- No. They protect people and pets, and modern openers are designed to require them. Disabling them is unsafe, so we repair or replace the sensors instead of working around the problem, and we test the reversing response afterward.
- How high up should sensors sit?
- They belong a few inches above the floor, facing each other across the opening. We check height and alignment so they pick up small objects such as a toy or a pet as well as larger ones.
Is the Door Reversing for No Reason?
